With his effortless vocals, distinctive songwriting, and instrumental prowess, Mike continues to capture audiences and carve out his own place in bluegrass. Mike Mitchell is a singer/songwriter and fiddler in the contemporary bluegrass style. He is most influenced by 70’s J.D Crowe and The New South, Tony Rice, and Sam Bush.
As a songwriter and recording artist, Mike has released 3 albums, the third of which, “Small Town” debuted on Billboard at # 2. His latest project, “Fathers & Sons” has enjoyed three chart-topping singles. Spend seven days in a beautiful setting writing songs and playing Bluegrass music with chart-topping artist,
and nationally recognized teacher Mike Mitchell. Enjoy picking, singing, songwriting, jamming and performing!

Songwriting, Lead & Harmony Singing
Intermediate through advanced level players are welcome. Limit 18 players
Singing is not mandatory ~ all voices are welcome!
The goal for this week is to write at least one new bluegrass song and one new instrumental tune.
These will be performed at the closing evening concert, along with as many other bluegrass standards as we can prepare!
We will apply the “6 Ts” of music
to the genre of Bluegrass
Tuning, Timing, Technique, Tone, Timbre, Taste
Morning sessions will include a group song-write and a group arrangement session of a standard.
During the arrangement session we will explore the balance of power between rhythm and melody, fills and lead-breaks.
Everyone will learn what to play (or what not to play) at any given time during a song, depending on the instrumentation.
Afternoon sessions will consist of break-out small groups organized by instrument, where we will explore playing techniques and Mike will be available for one-on-one instruction. The afternoon will end with a vocal session, lead and three-part harmony singing will be explored.
Evenings will be spent in a relaxed song-circle jam, where everyone will be welcome to lead the group in a song.
There will be a culminating concert one evening near the end of the workshop.
