“I really
love the ideas you present, and the creative ways you have stretched the cello
to engage the audience’s imagination.”
—Yo-Yo Ma
“A compelling
and magical performance with music and masks—a celebration for the whole family.”
— Barbara Leonard, Los Angeles Music Center
Using masked characters, stories, comedy and exquisite musicianship, Eugene Friesen draws upon a lifetime of experience in music and theater to inspire and educate. From serious classics to serious fun, CelloMan engages young audiences in the concepts of creativity and passionate commitment to life’s work. Eugene’s openness to new experience, his revelations in nature, and his respect for—and ability to connect with—children are powerfully conveyed in his performance.
"Unbelievable! Fantastic! Cool! These are some of the comments I've gotten over the past few days about your show."
- Rita Smircich, Executive Director, First Night Westport/Weston, CT
"Wow! I was completely amazed at the high quality and originality of this fine performance. I got chills up my spine during the humpback whale piece, and was very moved by Eugene's encouraging words and thoughts on the passion and discipline of musicians. His enthusiasm and love for music was contagious. Our students loved him, and I know we will all remember this performance for years to come." - Matthew Demaria, sixth grade teacher, Mesa School, Mesa, CA
